Independent contract refiners

Quality

Our company is based on quality. We have high standards in our organisation, which are controlled by high qualified employees. Due to new regulations and high requirements of our clients, we try to be ready for the challenges in food safety. Our employees are all qualified in processing and food safety. Regular training is evident.

Quality Control

Our modern laboratory is equipped with skilled technicians, who analyse the products of our clients critically. Should there be any doubt then we will contact our client to discuss the specification. Sampling takes place with every delivery (loading as well unloading) and during production. Samples are stored for at least 6 months, so we can analyse afterwards if necessary.

Quality Assurance

SRC operates in standards of ISO-9001 and FSSC-22000. We are certified to process organic products. Our refinery is also USDA Organic and JAS certified.

Pilot Plant

SRC has recently invested in an advanced pilot plant. This means we are able to refine on a very small scale. This is very helpful to us and our clients to find the optimal recipe and the perfect process conditions. We have also the possibility to test new products or blends on a small scale.

REFINE Project

Our pilot plant is an important tool in the REFINE project which we started in 2017 in collaboration with the University of Wageningen. This project aims to improve the refining process of vegetable oils for minimization of process contaminants –like 3-MCPD, 2-MCPD and glycidol- and optimal product quality. This project has been initiated and subsidized by the Dutch Ministry of LNV (agriculture and food safety).

GE / 3-MCPD

GE and 3-MCPD are both process contaminants which are formed during heating (refining) of vegetable oils. Levels of these contaminants are depending on the nature and quality of the refined oil. Research have shown that GE and 3-MCPD is risky for public health because it is genotoxic and carcinogenic. Risk assessments to normal consumer behaviour states that these levels are safe. As a result of the risk assessment the European Commission has determined legal maximum levels. GE: max 1.00 ppm, 3-MCPD: max 1.25-2.50 ppm (depending on nature product). For baby food purposes these levels are even lower. SRC takes maximum efforts to reduce formation of these contaminants. To avoid any unnecessary risk and ensure quality SRC has decided in 2021 to invest in equipment for analysing GE and 3-MCPD. Results of analyses are fast available what secures food safety without unnecessary delays in the supply chain. After validation of the analysis method and education of our chemical analysts the equipment was operational in January 2022. The validated analysis is carried out in accordance with the ISO 18363-4 method. Ring tests with accredited laboratory secures that results of analysis are reliable.
